Today is #IndigenousPeoplesDay! The WESD is proud to honor Indigenous peoples across the United States and commemorate their histories and cultures. We are also thankful for the rich contributions of all our Native American students, families and staff in the #WESDFamily!

WESD teachers, students, staff, parents and community members kicked off fall break at the annual Kiwanis of North Phoenix Walk-a-thon at Hurricane Harbor on Saturday. WESD teams raised over $37,000! A huge thank you to the Kiwanis of North Phoenix for their support! #WESDFamily

The WESD Refugee program hosted its first event of the school year last month, US Together. Hosted at Alta Vista, the event was attended by 146 current refugee students and 48 former refugee students. Great job to the WESD Refugee program on another successful event! #WESDFamily

Last week, the WESD Native American Education program hosted its first Parent Night of the school year! During the event, WESD students and families gained information about the program, received free dental screenings and learned how to make beaded earrings! #WESDFamily

Students in the Royal Palm Garden Club get hands-on learning thanks to the partnership with @19North_phx. Students utilize the 19North Community Garden to learn about healthy fruits and veggies and gardening techniques. What a great collaboration! #WESDFamily

Saturday was a day of service and community connection in the WESD! The morning started with Love Our Schools Day activities at six schools including Desert Foothills, Desert View, Lakeview, Sahuaro and Sweetwater. The #WESDFamily is thankful for all of our partners & volunteers!

The WESD’s day of community connection on Saturday included visiting our neighborhood partners at their annual GAIN events. The #WESDFamily is so appreciative of the collaboration we have with our neighborhood groups. It was a great day!

On Monday, Dr. Aarón Grageda Bustamante, Secretary of Education and Culture from Sonoran, Mexico, visited Desert View to observe the instruction of J1 Visa teacher Mr. Joel Angulo Frias. The visit was part of WESD's partnership with International Alliance Group. #WESDFamily

Let’s hear it for our WESD cheer squads! Last night, teams from our five middle schools and two K-8s demonstrated their top-notch performance skills at the annual WESD Cheer Showcase. It was great to see the amazing school spirit and talent from each squad! #WESDFamily

Over 45 families from Abraham Lincoln, Acacia, Alta Vista, Chaparral, Desert Foothills, Ironwood and Sweetwater attended the McKenna Youth Foundation Children’s Christmas Party this past weekend! We are so grateful for the foundation's ongoing support of the #WESDFamily!
