The wildfire remains about 16 kilometres southwest of Fort McMurray. It showed active fire behavior today and grew to the southeast.

As evening progresses, cooler temperatures are expected to slow wildfire behavior. Operations will continue

I’m in the Fort McMurray area with Nathan Gross covering a 1,500 hectare wildfire that’s about 16K away. The region has been under an evacuation alert since last night. Crews are working on a containment line on the east side of the fire to guard the city.
