Leaders, do the following:

Mingle before mandating
Listen before leading
Interact before implementing
Connect before correcting
Feel before fixing
Know before notating
Ask before acting
Relate before resolving

Not just during Teacher Appreciation Week, but EVERY WEEK.

Most of our concern over kids not learning is on 'that kid' w/ his head down or 'those kids' misbehaving.

But, do we ever stop to think about the kid sitting consistently quiet, completing the work?

Is that kid learning or is he just hiding from learning behind compliance?

No profession around touches as many lives as teaching.

Educators' impact echoes across generations.

A huge responsibility we don't take lightly.

We'd appreciate your help & support.

Valuing & integrating kids' prior knowledge is essential when we are seeking to tie it to the background knowledge they need during new learning.

All kids bring something to the table for learning.
We need to welcome it.

We work really hard at teaching.
Most of the time too hard.
But the job isn't teaching.

We don't come to work to teach students.
We come & work to design for learning to happen.

There IS a difference
That difference can change school for both adults & kids for the better.

1924 vs 2024
Teaching still fundamentally the same.

But the job's always been learning.

Producing learning in students requires impactful, intentional, meaningful design choices.

Teach, and learning may happen.

Design, and ensure that it does.

Appreciation- from Latin meaning 'to set a price'

There is no price to set on what teachers do.

It is a priceless profession.
That's why appreciation doesn't quite sum up how we should feel toward our teachers.

Happy Teachers Appreciation Week to all you priceless people.

We are all examples.
To our kids
To our peers
To our leaders

We can't escape being an example.

The choice we have lies then in what kind of example we choose to be.

Our example is a gift to others everyday.

Make sure your gift is appreciated by those who receive it.

Maybe a lot of our issues come from us thinking that kids come to school for us & our work for them.

In reality, we come to school for them & our work is providing a service.

Delivery of high quality, well designed learning experiences based on science.

Our impact in any area of our lives is summed up with 1 question we can ask ourselves:

'How will I purposely use my infinite potential in the finite time that I have?'

You can't avoid making impact on others.
But you can choose the impact you make.
