There is no age requirement to be called a bourbon. As long as it goes into a new, charred oak barrel, even just for a second, it’s legally bourbon. It will only need an age statement on if it’s under 4 years of age. #BourbonFacts #BourbonHeritageMonth #VASpiritsMonth

Bourbon must be aged in new oak, and the most common type of tree harvested for barrels is the white oak tree. It can take between 60 and 80 years for a tree to reach the necessary size. Depending on size, a skilled cooper can usually craft 1-3 barrels from a single tree.
