The day concluded with a Coping through Football session - where we saw first hand how this project supports the wellbeing of adults and young people experiencing mental health issues. “People become themselves again when they play football”.

We were then joined by OTs in leadership roles & clinical leads from CAMHS, Children’s services, & Discharge to Assess. A session full of discussion about the strengths, challenges & opportunities for OT here in #teamNELFT & more broadly, + how Royal College of Occupational Therapists can support members.

Next stop ➡️ Ainslie Rehab Unit, where we joined in some seated strengthening exercises and learnt how to prevent falls. Thanks so much to the team for letting us join in!

Our visit to the Regional Prosthetics service was inspirational - and there was a competitive game of Connect4 as a service user practiced with his new prosthetic technology!

Next we head to our Wheelchair and Specialist Seating Service. We heard how ‘listening’ is a critical skill for OTs - so that we can support people to solve problems specific to their needs. We also got to check out the technicians workshop - where they individualize equipment!

First up… our Environmental Controls Service! We heard how utilizing specialist tech such as the Possum system changed lives and gave back independence! And got to try out eye-gaze technology! Thanks Jacqui and the team!!
