A handful of elite schools — Brown, Wesleyan, Johns Hopkins — seem to have handled the Palestine protests gracefully.

Their successful approach: don't send cops after students, talk seriously with the protestors, and enforce *preexisting* codes about speech and harassment.

Mayor Adams suggested today that Hassan Naveed, his ex-hate crime prevention director, was fired because he didn't 'live up' to the job, given recent hate crime spikes.

Adams didn't mention that his admin has slashed funding for Naveed's former office.

Yesterday we celebrated the life of Lori Kleinman, a beloved member of the Greenwich Village community, and a board member of Jefferson Market Garden. In October she was tragically struck and killed by an SUV on Greenwich Avenue in front of the garden and her apartment building.

I've covered campus activism since the late 90s. Nothing that's happening on campuses now -- sit ins, building takeovers, encampments -- is at all outside the standard vernacular of student protest.

What's unusual is administrators calling in riot cops on their own students

The thing about “off topic Tuesday” is it seems Mayor Eric Adams’s opening remarks are getting longer each week, leaving less time for questions from reporters. We are just wrapping up a nearly 15 min speech after starting late.

To those who think Trump and DeSantis can't run on a ticket together because of rules that prevent electors from voting for both a President and VP from the same state, that simply isn't an obstacle.

All Trump has to do is declare that he has changed his residency to another
