Many wildlife species will not be able to adapt to higher temperatures and will die. It's great that some of us can escape heatwaves in rooms with air condition but the planet is still dying. We have the tools for a sustainable transition, but we need to use them!

.Dept. of Agriculture reports another infected herd in Texas. It lists the national total as 52 herds in 9 states. But Michigan has reported 4 more than USDA currently lists, so my graph includes them too. Cumulative total = 56.
Why is USDA so slow in confirming positive herds?

This is a good development. Turning off flu surveillance would hamper our already limited ability to track H5N1 infections. Eg, need flu data to interpret wastewater statnews.com/2024/05/21/h5n….

Wahoo! Chicken Marketing Summit! How can we get people to eat more slaughtered chickens?

Remember, its not consumers who drive demand for slaughter-based protein, its the slaughter industry. And taxpayers pay these corporate executives whether we purchase their products or not.

Really important article! Important for institutions to have a clear strategy here and protect their employees. Otherwise this: “You put yourself into the position where you’re constantly trading off academic freedom for safety.” nature.com/articles/d4158…

First ever human case of in Australia:
“The case occurred in a child, who acquired the infection in India and was unwell in March 2024.”
It’s H5N1, but “not the same as the strains that have caused these outbreaks in the United States of America.”

To people saying it is fine to sell milk with because it is pasteurized. It is not, at least not yet. We need more transparent information first from the responsible agencies showing the viral particles are not infectious anymore before being on the market. Read below.
