Community media & local journalism is so important. L.A. TACO🌴🌮 has been thoughtful and innovative in their audience engagement approach, and it would be a grave loss to the greater LA area if this space shrinks or closes. We need to keep newsrooms open.
Over the past few years, the Los Angeles Times made a considerable effort to diversify their newsroom.
Today, they laid off over 100 talented journalists - many of them people of color.
These folks were dedicated to serving their community, and this is a massive loss for the industry.
Truly saddened by all the layoffs. The most important part of a newsroom is being gutted: its people. Especially concerned to see young journalists of color being laid off, like at the Los Angeles Times. These tough choices are at the expense of progress & long term growth.

There’s a way to engage current audience and quickly emerging viewership/readership w/demo shift— commitment $ & patience are 🔑
It’s definitely about building a foundation and understanding that at this moment that’s what it is and that the ROI will be there.
NAHJ-LA proudly supports the L.A. Times staff who walked out today in protest of proposed job layoffs. Journalists deserve sustainable livelihoods.
