The men who are loving this beef need to start watching bravo shows. You can't have all this messy nosy energy pent up you are supposed to let it out slowly via the real housewives

My name is Catherine Hamilton, and I am a reporter for the Daily Bruin. And I have never been prouder to say so. (Repost because the original thread deleted. I am apparently bad at Twitter.)

Disorder is not violence. Camping is not violence. Trespassing is not violence. Genocide is violence. Knocking people to the ground and choking them is violence. Shooting people with rubber bullets is violence. Just feels like we need to remind each other of the meaning of words.

Watching everything that’s happening as a Gen Z-Millennial cusp (born in ‘96), I see what’s happening to youth on college campuses as, on top of everything else, the logical end point of decades of neglect of and vitriol towards children and young adults. 🧵🪡

Student journalists have been on the front lines covering these protests happening on college campuses across the country, many times when professional journalists have been denied access, from the very beginning. 🧵 1/4

So much has been said about the importance of student journalism, but mind you: UCLA has no j-school. The Daily Bruin is the unofficial training ground for aspiring reporters here. And this past week, they have matched professional reporters in their clarity and courage.💙

student journalism is, again, proving to be one of the most reliable sources of news in this situation, and I so admire the students dedicating themselves to this extremely difficult work tonight

The university and police made these protests unsafe. Refusing to listen to incredibly reasonable demands — divest from genocide, call for a ceasefire, stop being racist — was a choice by university admin. Calling in cops to brutalize people was a choice by university admin.

The folks at Daily Bruin are frankly too busy covering everything to say this, but here's where I will note that you can donate to UCLA's student newspaper here -> uclastudentmedia.com/donate/

Graeme Blair, associate professor of political science and member of Faculty for Justice in Palestine, said via text message that professors inside the encampment “plan to be arrested alongside students who have done nothing but talk about a genocide taking place in Palestine.”

Some of us have been out of school for a while and may have forgotten our American history.

Protesting injustice and expressing our opinions is part of our American tradition and what makes this, in fact, a free country. That’s what the Constitution is all about.

🧵En route to UCLA campus where organizers of the anti-genocide encampment say that police will likely raid it around 6 PM. I’ll post updates throughout the evening, already tons of police presence on the periphery.

We are hearing from multiple sources that a multi-agency law enforcement raid at UCLA is imminent. CHP Headquarters LA County Sheriffs and LAPD HQ are all activated. Gavin Newsom LA County Sheriffs and Mayor Karen Bass MUST call this off IMMEDIATELY before UCLA students' lives are more in danger.

I have gotten a few questions about how to donate to student journalism outlets without supporting Columbia itself. Columbia Daily Spectator is an independent nonprofit with zero financial ties to the university, if you want to kick them some money. specpublishing.com/donate-1

please please please evaluate your capacity for risk at actions and position yourself accordingly--there are so many other modes of action if you do not want to be arrestable--jail support, bridge building btwn coalitions and encampments, passing out masks, teach ins, etc.

If any kid is hurt tonight, responsibility will fall on the mayor and univ presidents.

Other leaders and schools have found a safe, de-escalatory path. This is the opposite of leadership and endangers public safety. A nightmare in the making.

I urge the Mayor to reverse course.
