Disorder is not violence. Camping is not violence. Trespassing is not violence. Genocide is violence. Knocking people to the ground and choking them is violence. Shooting people with rubber bullets is violence. Just feels like we need to remind each other of the meaning of words.

The university and police made these protests unsafe. Refusing to listen to incredibly reasonable demands — divest from genocide, call for a ceasefire, stop being racist — was a choice by university admin. Calling in cops to brutalize people was a choice by university admin.

Protesting injustice and expressing our opinions is part of our American tradition and what makes this, in fact, a free country. That’s what the Constitution is all about.

We are hearing from multiple sources that a multi-agency law enforcement raid at UCLA is imminent. CHP Headquarters LA County Sheriffs and LAPD HQ are all activated. Gavin Newsom LA County Sheriffs and Mayor Karen Bass MUST call this off IMMEDIATELY before UCLA students' lives are more in danger.

please please please evaluate your capacity for risk at actions and position yourself accordingly--there are so many other modes of action if you do not want to be arrestable--jail support, bridge building btwn coalitions and encampments, passing out masks, teach ins, etc.

If any kid is hurt tonight, responsibility will fall on the mayor and univ presidents.

Other leaders and schools have found a safe, de-escalatory path. This is the opposite of leadership and endangers public safety. A nightmare in the making.

I urge the Mayor to reverse course.
