In 2005-06 the avge HECS debt for people in their 20s was $12,557.

Inflation since then has risen 57%, but the avge debt has gone up 145%.

That's $11,200 of extra debt now compared to then - and it will only get worse.

I was fortunate to receive an early copy of this, and I wolfed it down - an addictive read about cities, art, sex, love, power and class - from Bri Lee

I'm nearing the end of a first draft on the Robodebt book (and still making lots of calls). Losing my mind etc etc. But you don't know what you don't know. If there are any secrets left, get in touch. I'm aware of a few. Can be anonymous. [email protected]

It was wonderful to hear mary beard talk at ‘All About Women’ this morning about Marcus Aurelius’ “jottings”, Tony Abbott’s opinions about historical study, Ancient Roman gossip, and Agrippina’s lost autobiography. Bri Lee was a fantastic moderator.

Doing a PhD is a strange experience, because every non-academic thinks you're an overachiever while you live in fear of being exposed as a wastrel and fraud

Referendums are a question of Principle. Detail is legislated in Parliament after the fact. Asking for more detail is a hole-in-the-bucket argument - you can never bring them enough. Its a deliberate tactic by the Opposition to derail Indigenous advancement.

It could -- and should -- have happened much sooner, but these amendments are a huge step forward for victims of sexual violence in Qld. The changes to mistake of fact are in s 14 of the bill. legislation.qld.gov.au/view/whole/htm…

In 2011, I published my first article urging changes to the mistake of fact excuse for rape in Qld. Since 2017, Bri Lee and I have been campaigning publicly on this issue. Yesterday, legislation implementing these reforms was introduced into the Qld parliament.

University staff are at breaking point. It's been a long time coming. The institutions have been run more and more like businesses, less like engines of knowledge and training. Students suffer. thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/education…
