Rent controls obviously won’t fix the entire private rental sector, but we need them desperately.

It couldn’t be any clearer.

Every time you hear a landlord or estate agent tell you that rent controls don’t work, remember that they’re only saying that so they can continue doing this.

Rent controls now.

All we have is each other. The only solution to the crises we face is to organise our communities and our class for power.

This is a policy choice by those in power. It doesn’t have to be this way. But the change we need will only come through organising and building power, not begging for crumbs.

Whether you vote tomorrow & who for is up to you but I won’t put my faith in any party.

It’s International Workers’ Day today; a reminder that it’s the organised working class that has won us virtually every right, benefit and service.

Vote or don’t vote. But organise.

London is increasingly becoming a city that is unlivable for ordinary people. The housing crisis and cost of living crisis is forcing people out of the city or into poverty.

This is a national disgrace.

The homelessness crisis isn’t an unavoidable fact of life, it’s the direct result of political choices made by those in power. And as those choices have been made, they can be unmade. But only if we’re organised and willing to fight for it.

We are.

A 30% (£700) rent increase is pure greed enabled by a rotten housing system, plain and simple.

We need rent controls, badly. But we also need an entirely new housing system that prioritises people’s need for housing over lining the pockets of the wealthy.

“P***-taking landlord tries to charge tenant £25 for every email she has to reply to.”

This is the reality of how landlords think they can treat tenants in this country. dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-ne…

Adam, a disabled renter in Liverpool, has been evicted 4 times in 4 years, including an illegal eviction & revenge eviction after complaining about bad housing conditions.

This is who the government has betrayed by gutting the Renters Reform Bill on behalf of the landlord lobby.

“Despite the Conservatives pledging to get rid of no-fault evictions in 2019, landlords are using it in record numbers with a 28% increase in 2023.”

End Section 21. Now.
