And Cloud is confused during this entire scene.

And yet everything you have just pointed out, Clouds goals, his desires all revolve around Tifa.

Yes Cloud feels like he was finally successful in being what he always wanted to be.

Tifa’s hero. And isn’t it interesting, the moment is not him saving her from physical harm, he’s being a comfort to her and saving her in an emotional sense.

Yes. It’s quite romantic.

If this was truly the case, why didn’t he inform the whole town? Why was it ONLY Tifa he informed.

He didn’t even tell his own mother he was joining SOLDIER, and he told Tifa to meet him in secret in the middle of the night.

Yes. It was absolutely for love. And only for Tifa.

Cloud’s insecurities started at the mountain with what he felt was a moment of weakness. He felt like a failure because someone he held dear fell and nearly died and he was unsuccessful in stopping it.

It is the story of a couple of kids who maybe weren’t the closest growing up but admired each other from afar

This is also the story of Cloud’s hero journey and his desire to become strong to protect those he loves.

Like many heros a traumatic event kickstarted his hero’s arc.

Clearly got some outdated info here. Nojima makes it pretty clear in his novel, and in Crisis Core, Tifa falls for the “ordinary boy” Cloud Strife.

In fact in Rebirth she tells Cloud following her up the mountain as the act of a hero despite his failure to save her.

One instance of Tifa failing to notice Cloud does not equate to her never recognizing him.

What memories Tifa does have of Cloud are treasured by her and safely guarded as pointed out in Traces of Two Pasts. Only one memory is clouded, the accident.
