🗓️It's been 10 years since a storm washed away the railway at Dawlish

🛠️Since then, we've been working to improve resilience in the area, with a new sea wall and cliff protection

💪With 5m waves and wind gusts of over 85mph, the town and railway were protected by the new coastal defences

🌊Owing to damage caused by Storm Ciaran, sections of the walkway along the old sea wall are closed until further notice:

❌Between Coastguard’s and Red Rock, Langstone, at Dawlish.

❌Between Smugglers Cove and Sprey Point towards Teignmouth.

📣 The pocket park near Coastguards Cottages, Dawlish, has reopened after its mini-makeover.

🍃The benches are back in place and there are new shrubs and flowerbeds.

🐞Just the bug hotel and bat box left to install.

🎥The new footbridge with lifts at Dawlish station is due to open this autumn.

🙌This means the station will be fully accessible for the first time.

🦺Work is continuing and we’d like to thank our passengers and neighbours for their patience.

💪Resilience work on the cliffs between Dawlish and Holcombe to help protect the railway starts this week.

👷The £34.7m project will see 19,700 sq m of stainless steel netting, secured by more than 6,000 nails, installed on the cliff face.

🌊The £80m structure will help to protect the railway from the impact of climate change for generations to come.

📷 We’ve reached a milestone in the construction of the 109m-long rockfall shelter to help protect the railway north of Parson’s Tunnel, near Holcombe.

🏗 All 185 pre-cast concrete units are now in place, with our final concrete pour on the roof deck due to take place next week.
