Whilst water company executives and shareholders pocket millions, consumers are hit with bill hikes. These disgraced firms are destroying the environment with raw sewage and now expect the public to pick up the tab.

In a question to the Ministry of Defence, I raised the concerns of a constituent who rents his home from the MoD and has been given notice to quit within 2 months, without any reason. I'll be meeting with the Minister for Defence People and Families to discuss this case further.

Earlier this month, I chaired a panel discussion at Somerscience, the brilliant #STEM festival in South Somerset. Yesterday, in a question to the Minister for Defence Procurement, I highlighted concerns in the defence sector about a lack of STEM skills in the UK workforce.

👋 Hello #Somerton & #Frome , and all the wonderful villages in between! Here’s a snapshot of what I got up to last week in both Parliament and in the constituency.

Last week, I attended the parliamentary launch of a new campaign calling for a UK-wide ban on pesticide use in towns and cities. More than 100 local authorities across the UK, including Somerset, have now gone pesticide-free or taken significant reduction measures.

Delighted that the Government have finally agreed to appoint a Tenant Farming Commissioner later this year who can fight to protect the rights of vulnerable tenant farmers.

This can't come a moment too soon!

I've written to the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities about the difficulties local authorities are experiencing in being able to meet their 2050 net zero targets.

The Government must now compensate victims and their families as soon as possible. Thousands have died waiting for justice and too many lives have been torn apart.

Last week in Parliament, I spoke in another debate about #WASPI women, calling on the Government to honour the ombudsman's recommendations and put forward a proper plan to compensate the millions of women affected.

The Conservatives knew unpaid carers were being unfairly penalised and did nothing.

The Government must fix the flawed and failing Carer's Allowance system as an urgent priority.

Here in Somerton & Frome Environment Agency figures reveal that our rivers were polluted by sewage 4,046 times in 2023, for a total of 46,323 hrs. I will continue to call for tougher action to stop pollution being dumped into our rivers.
