Thrilled to share our latest review on sex-chromosome evolution! We delve into newly developed theories and explore potential ways to test them. Hope you find it insightful!

Why do sex chromosomes progressively lose recombination?

How do structural variants shape avian phenotypes?
This is what Maria Recuerda Carrasco learned mainly from chickens.

Face cells in a paper wasp!!

Really stoked for this result by Chris Jernigan in the new lab pre-print in collaboration with W Freiwald.

These wasps recognize faces and like primates do it with a specialized population of neurons. See Chris’s thread for more details

Did you realize that butterflies hear, and being able to hear the presence of a competitor increases mating success?

New results from comparative population genomics: Genes driving global adaptation -> low pleiotropy; genes driving local adaptation -> high pleiotropy. Consistent with migration-selection theory. Gabriele Nocchi Jim Whiting biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Introducing figeno, my visualization software for (epi)genomics🧬🎨. Supports many data types (bigwig, HiC, Oxford Nanopore data with base modifications, WGS...) and is easy to use with a GUI. Can visualize multiple regions (e.g. for breakpoints). github.com/CompEpigen/fig…

Why are ~10% of humans left-handed? (🙋‍♂️) Exome-wide association study of rare variants in UK Biobank identified alleles of the beta-tubulin gene TUBB4B. Could be related to cilia function, which has been linked to other left-right asymmetries. nature.com/articles/s4146…
