Yom HaShoah, Holocaust remembrance Day, marks the Holocaust and honors the 17 million people murdered during Nazi Germany’s genocide, including 6 million Jews.

We know our remembrance is hollow if we cannot apply the lessons of our past to the present day. 🧵

Sending prayer amid the grief of everyone sitting in memories of family killed by the Holocaust.

That weeping is fierce love, the kind that can shape a world where no one mourns dehumanization and genocide.

Lighting a candle that their light might never dim.

Nothing says dystopian collapse like riot police at the Met Gala to suppress protestors crying out against our government’s participation in mass death.

Tomorrow is the 54th anniversary of the Kent State massacre, where 4 antiwar protesters were killed on their campus.

We must not repeat that history, though some so-called leaders seem steadfast in stoking the flames to make it happen.

It’s unacceptable.

Lyndon Johnson may have signed the Civil Rights Act in 1968, but he also signed the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act, which let local governments order military equipment from the federal government to suppress potential unrest.
