I’m in awe of the way that Glenn Nielsen developed FND focused physio treatment from first principles, led consensus recommendations, did a pilot trial and has now led this huge trial across the Uk 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Specialist physiotherapy was found to be no better than community physiotherapy at improving physical function. Participants in both groups improved and both treatments were highly valued. The secondary outcomes show some additional value from the specialist treatment.

We also found promising outcomes in a health economic analysis, which we will publish shortly… So what does this all mean for people with FMD and physiotherapists providing treatment for people with FND?

Other trial outcomes at 6- and 12-months can be seen in this figure. Outcomes to the right of the 0 line favour specialist physiotherapy. Confidence intervals clear of the line are statistically significant.

Some of the secondary outcomes favoured specialist physiotherapy over treatment as usual physiotherapy, including a participant rated impression of improvement where 59% of specialist physiotherapy participants rated their symptoms as improved vs 38% of treatment as usual.
