Alt Text Assistant is now available to logged-in free users using GPT-4o. There are now 11 GPTs called 'Alt Text Assistant' so you should use my link: chatgpt.com/g/g-XDGNEuWJ5-…

It's easy. Upload images, get alt text. For copyright reasons, I recommend using openly licensed images.

Because I tweeted 7 publicly accessible YouTube video links in August 2020, Proctorio has been suing me for the past 1,363 days.

Me: I've heard a lot of bad things about Proctorio. Are they true?
ChatGPT: Yes. Key points of concern include privacy issues, bias, accessibility, legal controversies, ethical controversies, and technical issues.

Proctorio collects personally identifiable information, financial and payment information, and personal communications. They sue librarians and students. Their competitors don't.

Proctorio collects a LOT more personal information from students than Honorlock. Compare these screenshots from the Google Chrome Web Store.

Whoa! Ohio State University has cancelled its Proctorio contract. They've gone with other vendors of academic surveillance software instead, notably ones that don't sue librarians for sharing publicly accessible YouTube videos.

The new ChatGPT model, GPT-4o, is coming to free users. It can link! This means I can teach students to evaluate the information it produces using the SIFT method.

For privacy's sake, I hope logged-out users will get access, and that the Temporary Chat feature can be used.

I'll never forget my dinner with Brewster Kahle (and other brilliant folks) at the Internet Archive Canada headquarters. I am so inspired.

Remote proctoring tools like Proctorio have faced widespread pushback at colleges. Less scrutiny and awareness exists on their use in K-12 schools buff.ly/3xHOvXw

I found proof that Proctorio is being inflicted upon vulnerable children as early as kindergarten and talked to journalist Mark Keierleber (Mark Keierleber) about it. The story was published in The Guardian and The74 today.

Civil rights activists 'contend AI proctoring tools fail to work as intended, harbor biases and run afoul of students’ constitutional protections, said the privacy and security concerns are particularly salient for young children and teens.' - Mark Keierleber theguardian.com/education/2024…

I spoke with Mark Keierleber about how Proctorio is being inflicted upon vulnerable children.

“It was just obvious that Proctorio had K-12 clients and were being misleading about children under 18 using their product”

New from me: 'Will You Take This Algorithm to Court?'

In this paper, I discuss the debacle, the case of Ian Linkletter v. Proctorio & stats from the European courts on the cases against Big Tech. It appears our courts are not prepared to deal with what's coming:
