Neat to see my moose story for @biographic picked up by Smithsonian Magazine. Thanks for spreading the word about Colorado's expanding moose populations.

Love this new story by Ben Goldfarb in Audubon Magazine about the consequences of the northward march of beavers. I particularly enjoyed his description of the tundra from the air: a 'checkerboard of irregular polygons, cleaved by expanding permafrost veins, carpet[ing] the earth.'

Insanity: Half of the Colorado River's water goes to growing cattle feed. The great river of the West has become the central artery of an industry that is clogging our arteries.

Appreciated the surprising conclusion of this Jeremy Miller/Hakai Magazine story on terrestrial disease outbreaks in marine mammals: If we wanna keep pathogens out of the ocean, the restoration of coastal wetlands & estuaries is a great place to start.

I'm grateful my job allows me to work with some supremely talented science writers. Breaking down complex science and the 'why it matters' is an art that we need to support. This 3,000 word Jeremy Miller piece via Hakai Magazine is a shining ex. of that. hakaimagazine.com/features/how-t…

The US's central mining law dates to the administration of Ulysses S. Grant and is in need of a complete overhaul. My story for Sierra Magazine about damaged land, toxic water and the long-overdue changes being proposed by Congress.

In September, the Biden administration announced its intent to reform the General Mining Act, a law that allows a host of players to stake placer mining claims on public lands without environmental review or public hearings.
