I've called this dainty little girl Belina (as in Thumbelina) and I've been waiting to catch her at my own garden feeder.
If you ever hear a hedgehog making this sound, like popcorn cooking/coffee percolating, please get them to a rescue urgently.
Just like ours, healthy hedgehog

Liberty is free!🥳
This poor darling girl, kept in captivity for 6 long months - all of her short little life - is finally free. Breathing fresh air, walking on grass, and no longer a prisoner.
Her wonderful and so compassionate finders kindly sent this video clip, of her very

Did you know that grass contains 27% protein?
Amazing, isn't it?
We could solve the world's hunger problems in an instant, if only we could all learn to digest grass.😊
But we can't, our bodies aren't made to process grass, only ruminant animals can do that.

If you're looking for a project this sunny weekend, a pond is the very best thing you can add to your garden. Size doesn't matter (although, like TVs if you can go big - do!) as even the smallest will be the biggest prize to all your garden visitors.
No wiring or pumps/filters

In the weeks she's been here, darling Libby has been recovering not only from her physical ailments, but also from her mental anguish.
This week I was overjoyed to see her performing the most natural behaviours of all - nest building and self anointing. This is such a good sign

I've had a few messages lately saying folk are being told not to put a dish of water in the feeders, with the food.
I don't know where this kind of nonsense comes from, or why, but please ignore it and use your own common sense.
ALWAYS put a dish of water next to a dish of food

Darling brave boy Arthur is now beautifully healed.
His stinking infected strimmer wound, which came so close to killing him, took so long to drain, and so much nursing, and through it all he was the sweetest, most patient patient!
But he's all mended now, and off for a second

Hello Hedgehog Society , why are you showing a hedgehog in daylight, normalising it, when that's a sign that an animal is dying? And why have you hidden the urgent request from the hedgehog rescue @hedgehogcabin to change the image? Asking for a newspaper columnist The Times and The Sunday Times

I'm delighted to say that dear little boy Ambrose is now alert, and very much back with us, in the land of the living.
His nose is still a bit snotty and bubbly, as you can see (sorry about the video quality, my bodycam is on the blink, after years of faithful service), but he's

This is so sad, and such a terrible example to be giving the public. And Ambrose is but one of hundreds of victims.

Good rescues are rare, so if you have one near you, please help and support them.
One thing anyone can do, that will be a HUGE help to the rescue and they'll love you forever for it, is to provide newspaper strips for the hedgehog's bedding.
This takes us ages to do every day,

A hedgehog's spines are a great defence. Held errect, they are needle sharp and will usually be enough to deter any would-be attacker.
But if the hedgehog is really terrified, they can criss-cross the erect spines, making the armour even more formidable, and causing more damage

This is such a sad story, every time I think of what this poor girl has suffered, I cry.
Found as a baby on the road, out in the day time, in October last year, this little hog was taken in by a lovely couple in their 70s. They rang the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and

Darling Arthur is still healing and is becoming more lively now - a bit too lively when it comes to bathtime.😊The warm water of the ringworm medicated bath helps soften the abscess so I can squeeze any collected pus out of his strimmer wound.
I'm keeping the wound moist and

This is a hedgehog's Pret-a-Manger.
And a sight of joy to me - this little clump of nettles I transported here last year, growing well with the young leaves full of holes - evidence that the butterfly and moth eggs have hatched into caterpillars (the hedgehog's favourite meal).
