Coventry - I need your help!

With schools continuing to tell me what a useful resource the Meet the Coventry Kids books are, I’m thinking about doing a third!

Ben told me: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Aaron on his 10th picture book. The 11 other Coventry based illustrators, all with vary styles have done a wonderful job with each of their illustrations. It’s fantastic to share to rich history of Coventry with everyone.”

As yearly Belgrade Theatre pantomime goers, we love Ben’s work on the front cover of the programme so I was over the moon to have Ben onboard!

We find ourselves a couple of days before the Belgrade Theatre debut of Boy Out The City, the autobiographical show written and performed by Coventry lad, Declan Bennett (@thisainttherapy).

Esmae told me: “I wanted to capture how we’re living amongst so much history in Coventry. My illustration style and the bright colours and contrast show how the history of Coventry has been brought to life”

I wondered whether capturing the intricate details of the mural would be tricky with a hand drawn style however Esmae rose to the challenge and produced an image which recreated the atmosphere of the Bull Yard area decades ago!

You may notice that I’ve worked with Ana before; in our Christmas book ‘Help! Santa’s Sleigh is Broken’!

Ana said: “I was super excited about the concept and was very happy to illustrate about 2 Tone and SKA revival.

Through the process I kept gathering inspiration through the sound of The Specials, the patterns and the overall experience of listening to this music style.”

Another day, another look inside my latest book; Made In Coventry!

Our 2-Tone page was brought to life by the talented, Ana Jesus, who told me that she’d been listening to the music of The Specials whilst working on the artwork!

I just love Lauren’s style and how she brought the bustling Coventry streets on the day of Godiva’s ride to life with a vibrant and lively image!
