Found some “Shiny Blueberry” (Vaccinium myrsinites) today. The berries, which are edible, occur naturally here in Florida- specifically in mesic pine flatwoods, sandhills, and scrubby flatwoods. Yummy. 😋

I was able to take a photo of a rare Wood Stork at Hontoon Island. These birds have suffered from the destruction and degradation of our state’s wetlands. Today, the Wood Stork is classified as “Threatened” by the State of Florida and the federal government.

Special thanks to the firefighting staff at Embry-Riddle as well as the thousands of firefighters at the academy. I learned so much at the Urban Interface course, including structure protection and suppression. Also made life-long friendships with other firefighters!
