Someone asked me yesterday why I would contribute to open-source software rather than writing another paper.

I personally feel that my impact is much larger if I provide tools to researchers that they can use to investigate materials than if I look at one more material

Mario Barbatti I do the same, and add a note for the editor that I refuse to comment on 'impact' but only give recommendation based on scientific soundness and clarity of exposition. I work for free, you won't tell me how to do my job.

Something you learn to do early in grad school is read texts just to disagree. Pick them apart, find the mistakes, prove the author is wrong. Something you learn later in grad school is not to do that

I have to admit... I have no clue how you all are getting any work done on the plane. I just can't do it.

This winter, I will be joining the Department of Chemistry Drexel University! I am so excited to work with students in the classroom and the lab and to watch as our research in physical inorganic chemistry develops 🐉🎉
