Today at #EAA2024 at La Sapienza university, I’m in a session on damage to archaeological sites in warfare. I’m proud of the Ukrainian women who have travelled to tell us of the looting of their museums by Russians who then create exhibitions back in Russia on ‘Russian Heritage’.

Dear Twitter friends, I hope you can see this! I have a problem with my Twitter account which I am trying to get to the bottom of. I’m going to hold off posting my normal content or reposting for a while until I can sort it. I’ll still be around though!

I’m intrigued to read in June’s Current Archaeology about thin strips of lead - many of them blank - found at the Roman villa at Grove in Oxfordshire. They’re very like a series discovered at Little Thetford in Cambridgeshire that I wrote about 9 years ago drfrancisyoung.com/2015/05/21/mor…

Time for 1 last #EAA2024 European Association of Archaeologists party! A great conference. I can't begin to get my head around the logistics of such a huge conference, the sessions & events I attended were all really good - many thanks to all those who must have been working so hard behind the scenes!

Found this artefact fused with the asphalt and far away from the Sapienza. An unmistakable sign that it's over. Good bye #EAA2024. It was lovely 🤗

🔴 It has now been confirmed that the UAE-backed RSF Militia have looted the Sudan National Museum. Antiques dating back thousands of years from one of Africa’s oldest civilisations have been taken.

From today, the new Salisbury Reds X2 route means you can now catch a bus between Stonehenge and Wiltshire Museum. 🏛️ 🚌 From Devizes you can take a Stagecoach West bus to Avebury - the other part of the World Heritage Site. Plan your journey ➡️ traveline.info

Our first tweet for nearly 2.5 years! We're going to keep it corporate, as we think Head office might be keeping tabs on us. Dating to AD 160, our most famous floor is the "Baby on a Fish" mosaic. It is formed of around 3.4 million tiny cubes of coloured cheese. How did we do?

Landscapes within landscapes, the #Severnestuary and #BristolBay linking #Wales and #England is one of the largest maritime landscapes in northern Europe. Its shoreline has been inhabited for 1000s of years with a range of archaeology dating from may periods. 1/10

This is a great thread on the 'oldest pub' question. But what we can be sure of is that the oldest built structure that's now a pub (or part of a pub) is the Neolithic megalith incorporated into the Oxenham Arms in Devon (the South Zeal menhir)
