My name is Isabelle Friedman, and I'm the editor in chief of the Daily Bruin, UCLA's independent student newspaper. It seems like I've only just now had a chance to sit and truly reflect on the events of the past week.

Police report no serious injuries. But inside UCLA encampment, there was blood and mayhem.

While what has happened to Daily Bruin reporters – myself and others – was unfortunate, we are far from the only ones on our campus who were hurt. Dozens of students were injured across the past two days’ events and hundreds have been arrested.

.Jason J. Cohn detailing that this afternoon at UCLA, he saw Israel supporters trying to hand water bottles and snacks to police.

He says they told police, “you guys killed it last night,” to which the officers replied, “thank you, thank you.”

I am at Chapman University this morning where students have launched a Gaza solidarity encampment. The students are calling for financial transparency and for the university to cut ties with Israeli companies.

The county’s public defender union is asking the District Attorney and the City Attorney to decline filing criminal charges against people arrested at UCLA this morning.

An hour into this meeting, and at least half the time seems to have been devoted to detailed descriptions of how “disgusting” jail conditions are here.
