Secondary Brexit effect: Ireland now has much better connections to mainland Europe than before Brexit, with corresponding huge increases in both freight and passenger traffic.

Looks like flights to Rwanda will be filling up soon... with civil servants.

Wonder what kind of inducements will have to be offered to get people to put their lives on hold and head out there with mere weeks of notice? Fast track promotions? Honours? Threats of redundancy?

Laura K has put out the most coy, roundabout reference imaginable to a finding that a complaint against her show was upheld.

Presumably in the hope nobody noticed it. (Her tweet certainly drew almost no attention.)

Here's the actual text of that finding.

Amazing tale of someone who used AI to produce a high quality translation of an entire book in half a day.

Illustrates the difference between AI dabblers, who've maybe experimented a few times with ChatGPT, and experts able to combine many tools to achieve extraordinary things.

'Study links vaping to lower levels of fertility hormone'

If these findings are reproduced in other studies, they will have dramatic consequences for the industry and for public health. theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

Looks like Liz Truss's book sales are pretty closely calibrated with the length of her time in office.

(And when you think that most MPs and journalists probably bought a copy to stay informed, the figures are grimmer still.)

The UK has done a good job of supporting Ukraine. Probably the only thing the Tories can point to since Brexit that's gone even half right. But the notion we're leading the world on the response is ludicrous. The EU and US both have massive packages in place that eclipse ours.

You would think that the unredacted Russia Report would be a good tool for people to gauge the extent of malign Russian interference in the UK.

But we're no closer to seeing it.

If Rishi Sunak calls a GE before the May local elections, then presumably Parliament never has to go back into normal mode.

Instead, MPs can fill their remaining days campaigning, or polishing their resumes if they're not standing again or likely to lose.

Before Brexit, you could send pork chops to Paris by sticking them in a van.

Now, there's an assault course of documentation and red tape to deal with, 23 steps in all.

That's the difference between the Brexiter claim of 'most comprehensive trade deal ever' and EU membership.

Another must-read piece from Chris Grey, surely one of the most thoughtful and analytical people who still actively cares about Brexit.

As usual, I agree with almost all of it, with the perennial qualification that he gives Labour an easier ride than I am prepared to.

Good. It's a disgusting policy. Let's hope this is another battle the Tories lose.
