...in many ways. It isn't anti growth. It doesn't force an agenda on politicians they don't want. A tool of govt, it can be deployed differently, with less short term action, more cross govt cooperation, if the politicians will it!

Anyway, this leads to a fundamentally optimistic conclusion. Short termism, imbalanced power and insufficient time given to transformative ideas (like those needed for industrial strategy) can be fixed by politicians providing a different steer. The Treasury is excellent..14/

Tl;dr: is there an orthodoxy? Sure! It's what you would expect! Sound money and spending control matters, when pretty much every other part of govt is pressing the other way. But it is *highly* responsive to political direction. Blaming it for political decisions is silly 3/
