Another author confirmed for the Research Agenda for Resilience in Social and Public Policy book I am editing!

There's still space for a couple more chapters. Get in touch especially if you work on:

Just/Green transition and/or climate
Housing policy

with a resilience spin!

Natalie Elphicke has voted persistently and consistently to increase inequality in this country in a great many ways, and yet Keir Starmer says she shares Labour’s current values. Make of that what you will.

I'm sure this is supposed to signal fun and all the stuff the iPad can do, but like Plashing Vole , watching all these elements of creativity and culture get crushed is a really aggressive and dystopian way to go about things, no?

Submitted a peer-review quite late, in part because I wasn't convinced about what I was going to say. But I was heartened to see that the other reviewer had very similar points to me. A little reinforcement that I may indeed know what I'm talking about sometimes

Love how so many of the examples of disconnects in the replies are either non-English words or words with a non-English root (or subsequently Anglicised)

Returned a book proposal review today. One I said would be 'impossible' to return by May 3rd.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the 25th April revolution, the end of the Portuguese dictatorship. It has relevance beyond Portugal, marking also the beginning of the end of Portuguese colonialism and inspiring the fight for freedom, dignity and justice for all.

A luta continua

Feel like I'm limping to the end of the semester energy and motivation-wise. Just a few more lectures to go (then the marking will start...). Unlike other years, I seem to have done a lot more research this semester than usual. A good thing, obviously, but now more deadlines!

I have been saying for more years than I care to count that this is the end result of marketisation and stratification in UK HE. I've also said that most Post-92 universities are unlikely to survive if this carries on - at least not in their current form.

Working on an exciting paper with a collaborator who is doing crucially important work, and I get to write comments like this in the margin. Who says academics can't/shouldn't focus on the big picture?

If I had to build my career focusing on the minutiae, I would be in trouble.
