I was on site at the CUNY and NYU encampments.

They were great examples of the work of a university: discussion, learning, sharing a space, advocating for practical changes to the world.

They were cleared to make room for the *actual* work of modern universities: fundraising.

Facts are important. 1) Disruption was largely caused by the police. 2) The teach-ins and protests have been largely organized by students. 3)The demonstrations have not silenced Jewish students. Jewish students are participating in both demonstrations and counter-demonstrations.

I do it too and this is not a critique of anyone in particular but there is something uncomfortable (to me) about the impulse to parade one's Jewish credentials in order to speak in support of Palestine

ucla students have been peaceful, organized, and supportive of each other despite the harassment and violence they experienced. they have been focused on their demands, and they still are. utmost respect to them.
