I used to think that people would recognize when someone is doing 3 people’s jobs. I realized:

1. People don’t
2. It sets unrealistic expectations of what can/should be done by 1 human
3. Instead of applauding your Herculean sweat, you’re blamed across 3 surface areas when

“Anyone building a product knows that >90% of the decisions you have to make are trade-offs.

You can design a dream product or feature, but chances are that what you end up shipping will be compromised in at least one dimension.

Checking in with my new stakeholders aka Product managers and I only really have 2 questions:

1. What’s broken about how we work?
2. What is the north star for PM culture and craft?

There are obviously tons of unknowns but at the core, that’s what I care about solving.

Design debt doesn’t get talked about nearly enough in comparison to tech debt

This is never going to be collectively exhaustive and mutually exclusive, but every time I look at this, I think, 'Yes. Yes. And yes. My team is literally doing all of this, AND...'

The work is never just “the work”. The actual “work” you have to do, is just a very small part of a whole invisible set of a project. There’s the world around the work, to get the work, before the work, between the work, beyond the work, outside the work, etc.

As I close in on Year 1 of motherhood, I’m so thankful I get to work with crazy talented people at a company that asks me to show up, co-create the future of our work, and shape the operating systems that build our product 🚀
