Lets be clear: #BigBadBoycott is about the very simple ask to denounce an idealogy that actively supports the genocide of Palestinians. Something that should be easy based on BBC's supposed community standards. 🧵

Politics are what you do, not just what you say. It is not enough to claim to be anti-genocide, your actions must align with that claim. Any goodwill Big Bad Con earned was put into question as soon as they censored anti-Zionist and pro-Palestinian language. 🧵

#BigBadBoycott asks the convention to put their supposed values into practice. Many people, especially from affected groups, have spoken up about why this is important. It is notable that the detractors are almost exclusively white folks.

Let's be direct: Big Bad's leadership is also majority white. It is no surprise that knee-jerk defensiveness is their default response. But I ask the staff and other white folks to sit with that discomfort and consider its implications before speaking or acting.

By claiming to be a progressive space that caters to marginalized people, Big Bad has taken on a responsibility to those people. It is for the benefit of that space and those people that criticism is voiced. Silence from us only leads to complicity in upholding the status quo.

I hope that Big Bad's leadership can understand the weight of that responsibility and the ways in which their whiteness has prevented them from being able to steward the space appropriately. This is only the first step in doing better. I hold hope that better is possible. /end
