No one can imagine how I feel. I write these words while shaking. My father dared to demand freedom for Syria & has been detained for 12 years with no word about his fate. Seeing detainees released from Hama Prison breaks my heart & sparks dangerous hope. I just want my father!

One can only hope that, very soon, Sednaya, Adra, Branch 235, Mezzeh, Branch 251, Air Force Intelligence, and the countless other prisons under Assad’s regime will be liberated..

Sanan Al-Rashi, a brave and honest young Syrian man, a friend who stood up for many of us in Damascus during the revolution. He was arrested in August 2011 and remained imprisoned until now—13 long years. Today, he is finally FREE. May freedom come to all the youth of #Syria!

For the first time in 53 years, my home city of #Homs is free of the oppressive criminal Assad regime. Now I have hope in visiting the grave of my mom who died without me being be able to say goodbye to her because I am persona non grata in my country. Best of all is that so far

I can’t believe I might celebrate the day I’ve dreamt of with so many others. I’m praying for peace and a democratic Syria for all Syrians of all sects. I won’t sleep tonight, thinking about all those families who will be reunited with loved ones soon.

Morning has broken in a free Damascus, world's oldest continuously inhabited capital. Assad is now the ex-president, the sitting Prime Minister has addressed the nation & will hand over power to the political opposition to lead the transitional government. Hope is in the air.

We’re living a dream come true

I am unable to believe that I lived to see this day. I truly can't. I have a country again.

Let’s put geopolitical analysis aside for a minute and remember that those are humans who deserve to live with dignity and freedom of choice. The joy on the faces of those who’ve been freed from torture prisons after being wrongfully imprisoned for years in #Syria is unmatched.

Can non-Syrians please allow them to celebrate this long awaited moment for one second? Yes there will be challenges. They know that. Too early to know who will rule or who will control Syria? And yes Syrians did have agency in bringing Assad down.

Sednaya was once so hidden that the only reconstruction of what it looked like used acoustic mapping from survivor testimonies. We spent 4yrs trying to shed light on contemporaneous conditions, & it haunted me we couldn't do more. To see it open & inmates walking free... my god.
