G7 has agreed to phase out coal in 'first half of the 2030s' according to UK #climate minister. No text as yet but if accurate that represents a shift.

📢The G7 has just agreed to phase out coal power by the early 2030s - almost all members are already taking major steps to achieve this goal by 2030, in alignment with 1.5°C pathways.

This is big step for Japan, the only #G7 country without a domestic coal phaseout commitment.

At #COP28 , I joined President Emmanuel Macron & other leaders to proudly announce the United States is joining the Powering Past Coal Alliance.

We will work with partners around the world to phase out unabated coal, an absolutely essential step for keeping 1.5 C within reach.

Good morning with good news: US Coal generation is down 20% in 2023 through September and will fall to 1970 levels! Coal will be ~16% of US electricity in 2023.

Ten states have zero coal electricity, and 20 states are at or near zero coal. Distributed solar is not in data below
