PSA: if you are heading up to Weaver Street for the 4th, the Fitch parking lot is still closed from repaving. Remember, don’t park at WSM if you are going to walk in the parade, or you will be towed! Carrboro, NC

NEW: Phoenix police officer pulls over a driverless Waymo car for driving on the wrong side of the road leading the nonexistent driver to roll the windows down to speak with the police. This is hilarious. Waymo has since released a statement, apparently blaming the incident

Texas widened I-10 from 8 lanes to 22 in 2005. Travel times INCREASED by 33% afterwards. They only spent $2.8 billion to do so. When you spend billions to get the opposite effect of what you intend, how is this not government waste? From City Limits by Megan Kimble

I'd love to vote for a complete street project with a dedicated bus lane, protected bike lanes, and sidewalks. Please tell me where to look for that project NCDOT!

Permitting motorists to turn right on a red light at most urban and suburban intersections is deadlier for pedestrians. We’ve known this for 40 years.

This week’s Economist cover story is brought to you by US automakers and regulators, both of whom have been ignoring car bloat for decades.
