An important report issued by FCC China. The harassment of foreign journalists and their local staff continues to rise. If China wants a good story to be told, they need to let the journalists do their jobs. Harassment only creates a new story line — oftentimes negative.

Extensive constraints on foreign journalists, high risks to Chinese ones, and growing self-censorship among sources... limits on the public's view of what's happening in #China are damaging, of course, but ultimately the result of the government's own policies.

[1/2] Foreign Correspondents' Club of China Media Freedoms Report: Despite a welcome end to Covid-related restrictions on movement in 2023, China-based foreign #journalists experienced an increase of surveillance and intimidation while reporting in the field.

This video once again reflects how the Chinese authorities control foreign journalists’ access to do their jobs. When the subject is sensitive, police may use very extreme measures to obstruct a journalist’s reporting, even if he has government issued ID to properly do the work.
