This troubled, rich land has a long history of such turmoil and a relentless anti-democratic streak fomented by militant evangelicals, and a billionaire class increasingly frightened of the poor, all of which has seen the rights of women, migrants, and queer people under attack.

Deeply concerned at the actions of the American regime. After years of rising extremism and routine outbursts of deadly violence, at home and abroad, they have taken to brutalising unarmed civilian protestors, invading student campuses, and throwing dissenters into prison.

Shouldn’t we try to prevent FDV, not just deal with the fallout?

Increasing welfare payments (beyond the poverty line) and abolishing linking payments to partner income would help take financial stress out of domestic arrangements AND empower women to leave if they so wished

This is disgraceful. Poverty is a policy choice and a deeply unethical one.

Criminalising peaceful expression and then claiming to support the right to freedom of expression, but that it only protects 'lawful' expression is patently absurd.

Faced with videos of police assaulting peaceful protesters on US campuses & accounts of police/system failures to protect women, I feel concerned about calls for an increased carcareal response to gender-based violence. It doesn’t seem like the best path to safety or flourishing.
