This adds latency and, more importantly, puts (permissioned) relays in a powerful position to influence the (permissionless) auction

It need not be so

Low fees + MEV = on-chain spam

Spam wastes block space, raises costs for regular users, and creates extra load on nodes.

Addressing MEV help scale chains.

Two big trends for sequencers
1. Make them super fast
2. Make them interact atomically with each other

At some points these trends are in tension with each other

Backdroom orderflow deals at the expense of users, permissioned infra, undisclosed privacy leaks - it's bad out there right now.

I'm not surprised projects try this stuff out, I am surprised people seem to care so little.
