Colville River Special Area has headwaters in the Brooks Range & runs for 300+ miles, opening in a massive alluvial fan & delta plain stretching to the Beaufort Sea – the largest river delta in northern Alaska. We need stronger protections NOW for #AmericasArctic
In the heart of northern Alaska, the threat of a devastating development project has hung over wild landscapes for decades. A 211-mile industrial corridor crossing more than 3,000 streams is up for consideration. Learn more at the link. #StopAmblerRoad

100s of spotted seals and walruses haul out along the barrier islands in Kasegaluk Lagoon. However, offshore oil leases in the nearby Chukchi Sea pose major threats to this region. It’s time to strengthen protections for #AmericasArctic
There have already been at least 2 oil spills into wetlands near Kasegaluk Lagoon. Spills in this region are likely magnified by ocean currents which can easily move oil extremely far distances. We must defend #AmericasArctic by strengthening protections for our Special Areas.
#ClimateChange is having a profound effect on Kasegaluk Lagoon Special Area. Rising temps & disappearing sea ice are causing more marine mammal to haul-out on the mainland, resulting in greater vulnerability to predators and hunters. It’s time to #ProtectAmericasArctic
Kasegaluk Lagoon Special Area is one of the largest coastal lagoon systems in the world. This is a critical habitat for calving and molting beluga whales. Our Special Areas must receive the strongest protections possible. It’s time to do more for #AmericasArctic
While this news on Arctic warming is dire, we also have an unprecedented opportunity to move away from fossil fuels towards a more sustainable future. Letʻs put people before profits & #ProtectTheArctic . tinyurl.com/fmrw6buv
Healthy lands = healthy caribou. Join us as we call on Pres. Biden to keep Alaskaʻs lands protected and ensure both people AND caribou thrive. #ProtectTheArctic tinyurl.com/nd2shncx
A place as special as this deserves extra special protections. Help the Biden administration save our Special Areas. This is #AmericasArctic - it's time to protect it.
The Utukok River Uplands Special Area empties into Kasegaluk Lagoon (another Western Arctic Special Area) and winds through some of the lushest grassland in the country. This is our chance to make a major impact on the Arctic’s Special Areas. #AmericasArctic
The Utukok River Uplands Special Area is the Western Arctic’s largest Special Area, spanning nearly 4 million acres. This place has the highest concentration of nesting grounds for golden plovers that migrate as far away as New Zealand. It’s time to do more for #AmericasArctic
The Utukok River Uplands Special Area is the birthplace of the Western Arctic caribou herd. 40+ villages rely on this herd for subsistence, but encroaching oil & gas is putting the caribou at risk. We need to strengthen protections for our Special Areas & defend #AmericasArctic
Climate change is wreaking havoc on Teshekpuk Lake Special Area. The disappearance of sea ice is causing rapid erosion in the wildlife-rich area. The sea has pushed in ½ a mile & salt water has contaminated freshwater lakes. We must protect #AmericasArctic before it's too late.
Teshekpuk Lake Special Area provides habitat & calving grounds for caribou where they gather each fall in the tens of 1,000s. But ConocoPhillips has at least 5 extractive projects in the works within a short distance of the lake. We need protections NOW. #americasarctic
Teshekpuk Lake is the 3rd largest lake in Alaska and the largest in Arctic Alaska. This designated Special Area lies at the heart of one of the most productive and unique wetland complexes in the circumpolar Arctic. It deserves the highest level of protection. #AmericasArctic
THANK YOU Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove for speaking out against destructive fossil fuel development & using your voice to #ProtectTheArctic . As shared in The Hill, oil & gas drilling in the Arctic would be disastrous for the climate, for people & for wildlife.
