After bravely manning the picket line for seven days, UAW Local 259 members in UAW Region 9A who work at South Shore Kia in Copiague, NY, have won an amazing contract!

Management tried every trick in the book to break their union, but it only made workers' resolve stronger.

In a statement, Office of New York City Comptroller Brad Lander Brand Lander said MFJ Union On Strike members deserve a fair contract, as they are “on the front lines to protect people from losing the roof over their heads” yet “also struggle to make ends meet.”

Lots to unpack about wages in publishing, but my biggest takeaway from this is that the only unionized Big 5 publisher is also the only place where entry level workers meet the MIT standard of living wage in NYC ($52k). This is a direct result of union action and organizing.
