Setting off our 2nd year Oxford Earth Sciences undergrads with a small mapping exercise on Achmelvich peninsula. Archean rocks in the sunshine - what could be better?! 😎

If you are a member of the #Mineral #Physics community or related fields, then please attend our 2024 #Research in Progress meeting EarthSciences UCL on the 18th+19th of JULY. Abstract submission opens soon, and student bursaries are available! Please RT MineralogicalSociety E.H.P.R.G.
Bright and early start this morning with Oxford Earth Sciences 2nd years on our way to Assynt! Let's hope we take these blue skies north with us 🤞🌅
Thank you to Chris Davies and Jon Mound for a cracking Magnetic Interactions 2024!
Lots of great presentations, with Oxford Earth Sciences students all nailing their talks and posters 💪
That's our boy 😻 Not really struggling with the transition from stray to pampered puss it has to be said...
Best thing to happen in 2023! Thank you Cherwell Cats Protection 🇬🇧
We’re delighted to share this beautiful image: ‘A Starry Christmas at St Edmund Hall’ by MCR student Shubham Kulkarni (2021, DPhil Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics). #Christmas #TeddyHall #StEdmundHall
Let's hope our St Edmund Hall Oxford Earth Sciences quiz is better than our selfie skills....𓆨Luke A Parry𓆨
What is Earth Sciences? How can you study it at university? How do planets make magnetic fields? If you're a secondary school student interested in any of these questions come to Oxfordshire STEM forum tomorrow hosted Magdalen College School, Oxford. There will be a meteorite ☄️and cake 🍰!
Here is great opportunity to work with myself, Claire Nichols, Luke Daly, and Paul Bagot, to understand how the cloudy zone forms in Fe-NI #meteorites and how we can use it as a model for #REE -free permanent #magnets . #microscopy #APT #DataScience

I'll soon be back to teaching Oxford Earth Sciences 1st years phase diagrams via the medium of cats. Unfortunately my Greek field assistant can't make it, but he was very helpful with the 4th years last week.
(Also, new headshot?!)
A fantastic few days of volcanology in Santorini with David Pyle and Oxford Earth Sciences 4th years comes to an end 🇬🇷😞
We've had great fun looking at all sorts of eruptive products, and assessing the hazard Santorini poses today and in the future 🌋
Back on #Santorini with Oxford Earth Sciences final year students looking at the spectacular volcanic geology of the island.
Slowly but surely disentangling tectonic uplift and subsidence from sea level rise and fall. We've had our sedimentology hats on for the last couple of days with Oxford Earth Sciences 4th years and Richard Walker
🚨Paper alert! Claire Nichols, Conall Mac Niocaill and I have studied the magnetism of the #Winchcombe meteorite to help better understand the magnetic behaviour of the protoplanetary disk: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11… Turns out the disk's field was seemingly pretty intense!☄️🪐
It's that time of year again! Our active tectonics field trip to Greece is in full swing with Oxford Earth Sciences 4th years and Richard Walker
