Shame on whoever called in the State Police to UVA today. This looks like the kind of political theatre a right-wing governor would do.

Nothing says “I’m a tough guy” quite like calling in police in riot gear to deal with 20 kids in REI tents singing songs and studying.

If tear gas is banned for soldiers in war, why should we accept its usage on civilians in streets??? Completely insane that this was ever allowed.

I think it’s high fucking time we update the Chemical Weapons Convention to ***exclude*** the exception for domestic riot control, don’t y’all?

If you oppose fascism who have to oppose police. The same cops that let Nazis march around Charlottesville seven years ago with torches, eventually killing Heather Heyer, are attacking, macing, and arresting UVA students for opposing genocide right now. This is policing.

there was no disruption until police showed up. the students were quietly studying and resting in their tents. it’s a cold wet day. some students in the library across the street didn’t even know there was a protest until 50 cops cars rolled up. now there is a disruption.
