Thrilled to share I’ll be Toronto Star’s new Work and Wealth reporter while the inimitable Sara Mojtehedzadeh is away.
Massive shoes to fill and I’m excited to continue important reporting on workers’ rights, labour issues and wealth inequality.

'You’ve got that kind of nexus between these terrible immigration laws and horrific labour laws.'
Great investigation by Sara Mojtehedzadeh & Rachel Mendleson w/ manuela vega, detailing the exploitation of trafficked workers in Toronto & the employers who looked the other way.
A Toronto landlady was charged w/ running an “industrial” labour exploitation scheme — one that supplied major employers across the GTA.
Inside a rare criminal conviction — and where it ultimately left vulnerable workers.

A non-perm resident & non-citizen, this #MigrantFarmWorker is ineligible to get heart #transplant even he could get free #healthcare in #Canada . In Mexico, he could get transplant but he would need to pay for hefty medical expenses w/no income support.

Great to hear that the Toronto Star has raised their photo assignment rate to match the UPoC - United Photojournalists of Canada recommended minimum livable wage. I applaud the photo editors for helping push that through. Great to see a paper I’ve always admired respecting the work of pjs.
Exciting News 📢 I'm embarking on a new chapter as a reporter/editor with The Canadian Press News Prairies Bureau as a year-long Indigenous News Fellow. I'm grateful the Toronto Star gave me a platform to rocket launch my career after years of freelance and study.
