#AI Act: On Friday, EU ambassadors gave a mandate to the 🇪🇸presidency to negotiate with MEPs on 6 Dec's trilogue. 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇮🇹 were again vocal on foundation models, but not as negative as before. Negotiators will have to walk a fine line, but an agreement seems finally within reach.

It was a great opportunity yesterday to close the year with an in-person meeting for the Brussels Chapter of #IAPP IAPP discussing the different international approaches to #AIregulation .

#AI Act: MEPs circulated a working paper on how to regulate foundation models insisting on binding rules for those with systemic risks. Codes of practice are only envisaged as complementing transparency requirements. The discussion was postponed to Monday.

A little update on the #AI political meeting that took place last night. Breton, Jourová and Artigas all attended, altho the last 2 virtually. MEPs were eventually allowed one assistant. No food was served. So a dinner that was not a dinner and a non-trilogue that was a trilogue.

Great initiative from one of our Strand colleagues- in Brussels Vincenzo Tiani of PANETTA and senior academics from around the world are calling for a Fundamental Rights Impact Assessment to be included in the #AIAct
