🚨 From today, the minimum income threshold for spouse visas rises from £18600 to £29,000 - pricing 50% of the UK population out of cross-border love.

In early 2025, the threshold will increase to £38,700 - around 70% of the UK population don't earn this.

Wonderful news: last yr I wrote about Batoor and his heavily-pregnant wife who had been told their baby wouldn't survive unless they were evacuated. They have now been resettled in the UK with their gorgeous baby. Sometimes journalism is a slog. Not today.

Over the moon to be longlisted for the One World Media freelance journalist of the year award for my reporting on Afghanistan.

The UK government has utterly failed Afghans and left them no choice but to cross by small boat. They are now dying in the Channel as a result.

Not enough people know about Ibrahima. As a child he wanted to claim asylum in the U.K. he didn’t have the money to pay smugglers. They did him a deal, tiller the boat - travel for free. That way if anything goes wrong smugglers don’t die or get arrested - not even on the boat.
