‘Regular for-profit book fairs are simply—in clear terms—not okay. Paul Gorski | Equity Literacy Institute found that they were the school event that most embarrassed families. There IS a better way. For our students and families. For the library communities we create together. #TrueBookFAIR 6/6

In middle and high school, asking students to struggle with key concepts before teaching the correct solutions is highly effective. But use the tactic surgically to avoid too much frustration.

#AASL23 was full of so much joy - presenting with 🧵Rachel Grover, meeting some of my library heroes (*cough erika long Amanda Jones: Defender of Libraries & Wonder School Librarians United cough*), hanging out with wonderful old friends, making new awesome friends, and so much more. Can't wait to see everyone in St. Louis in '25!

Talking about the 80s with my MS after-school club... Student 1: That's about when you were born, right? Me: Yeah, I was born in 1985. Student 2: Hey, that's when my dad was born! 😩💀🧓🏻

Alright, I might be getting this new social media landscape down: -BlueSky for library life and professional connections -Threads & Insta for personal life and random musings -X for connections who haven't switched to somewhere else...yet -TikTok for...jk, I'm too old 😂

Thanks to School Librarians United for hosting 🧵Rachel Grover & me! It was truly a dream come true to be a guest and to get to talk about belonging in the #SchoolLibrary--a topic so close to my ❤️. Give it a listen, and stay tuned for another installment coming in 2024! 🎉

Yesterday was full of so many good things--teaching Stats about explanatory variables, helping plan a PD on Ss engagement, teaching English 10 abt Canva & components of a BAD presentation, & facilitating PD on cultural responsiveness in #math. The #SchoolLibrary was a busy place!

Hey #Library #HiveMind! Has anyone done a #Maker #Breakout activity for students? I'm thinking about a breakout where, to solve the puzzles, Ss need to use materials in the makerspaces or build things. Has anyone tried this before? I'd love to hear about it!

Editing this mega #episode on Inclusive Programming with Rachel Grover and Stacy Gilbert. Love this quote from Stacy “One of the BEST things about being a #librarian is that anything we don’t know we get to learn about!”
