How can you tell someone has a mental health condition?

Maybe they'll usually look sad? Or tearful?

They're bound to be socially withdrawn. Perform badly at work. And they'll never want to socialise.

Yep. It's usually obvious. Isn't it?

(8/8) On a personal level, I've lived with mental health problems all my life.

Physical activity is one of the main ways I've managed my well being. It just works!

(6/8) How does being active help mental health?

Well, loads of ways! 🙂

Research shows it reduces systemic inflammation, promotes the release of neurotransmitters, improves self-esteem and reduces social isolation.

(3/8) It doesn't take much. The evidence shows that low and moderate-intensity physical activity showed the most significant protective effects against depression.

(2/8) A recent research review found higher levels of physical activity are linked with a reduced risk of depression and anxiety (Rahmati et al 2024)

The evidence is less clear for psychosis.

The 2024 theme is and the link between being active and mental health.

But does physical activity really help mental well-being? In what way? And how?

I'm alone with Mum in her hospital room. Family nearby. I'm sat watching her sleep.

Nearly 50 years ago, in this same hospital, she watched me (her new baby) sleep.

This time we won't leave together.

I'll walk out. But she'll fly. Fly to Dad. ❤
