Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease is devastating reefs in the Caribbean. Our new paper in Nature Communications
nature.com/articles/s4146… shows the transcriptional changes in host and symbiont when exposed and infected with the disease. Our results show symbiophagy as a mechanism.

Day 3 of heatwave sampling with Michael Henson, Ph.D. - the heat returns. Joined by Chris to sample for protists on several surfaces. Nice morning on the reef before getting blown around in the afternoon… let’s see how microbes look when the water is already above average!

Day two of sampling heatwave time series with Michael Henson, Ph.D. in the Florida Keys. This morning conditions were great for a quick look at the reef, before doing our normal water column sampling; winds blew up during day, but managed a scavenge in seagrass beds this afternoon…

Day one of heatwave sampling #4 in the Florida Keys. Incredible to see seasonal changes in macrophyte density at the nearshore site! Microbiome sampling and we even saw an old friend, a sea star (Echinaster sp.) amongst the seagrass and algal beds!

There's still time, we're looking for a postdoc to work on our project developing probiotics to protect corals from #SCTLD . You get to work with great collaborators and use our microbe isolation system. The posting closes on April 25th!
