AIPAC spending $100 million raised from Republican donors to unseat Democrats who oppose unrestricted weapons aid to Israel is a much, much greater threat to our democracy and values than anti-war campus protests.

Protests are typically vindicated after the fact. See: Vietnam, Iraq, civil rights, etc. Pro-Palestine protests won’t poll well, but more revealing: public opinion turning against Joe Biden’s Gaza policy. POTUS should heed, not ignore #StudentProtests .

Hubert Humphrey faced a New Deal coalition fracturing due seismic historical forces, some beyond his control (all w/ the limited powers of VP). Joe Biden as POTUS is CHOOSING to enable a genocide and divide his base. He should listen to #StudentProtests .

Despite a fracturing New Deal coalition, Hubert Humphrey almost won in 1968 and perhaps would have if he had had listened to antiwar protestors and broken with LBJ/opposed the Vietnam War earlier.

Richard Nixon not only didn’t have a “secret plan” to end the Vietnam War but covertly worked to sabotage peace talks behind the scenes, dealing a major blow to Hubert Humphrey’s campaign.

Exclusively blaming antiwar protests for Richard Nixon’s win in ‘68 is ahistorical, neglecting other key factors that led to the collapse of the New Deal coalition and letting the Dem establishment off the hook. Who does this narrative serve in 2024?
