I have a bet.
Post your TIN number here and I will post mine too.
Uganda Revenue Authority will tell us who has paid more taxes than the other.
I will send you 1,000,000 shs cash if you have paid more taxes than me.
VAT Tanzania - 18%
VAT Rwanda - 18%
VAT Burundi - 18%
VAT Congo - 18%
VAT Kenya - 16% (increasing to 18% 2026)
VAT South Sudan - 18%
VAT Sudan - 18%
VAT Morocco -20%
So what data are you relying on to say our VAT rate is too high?🤔
Yoweri K Museveni is right on this.
VAT EXPLAINED (For slow learners)
1. Traders don’t pay VAT.
2. It is you the consumer that pays VAT.
3. The trader just collects this VAT on behalf of Uganda Revenue Authority
4. The trader is meant to send your VAT to URA
5. The trader doesnt send it, he/she keeps it and eats it.
Mbu EFRIS equipment is expensive.🤔
This is an e-receipt printer. Connects wirelessly to your phone. Is rechargeable and fits in your pocket.
Even a mutembeyi can use it.
It costs about 130K UGX and is a 1 time purchase.
This is the technology Yoweri K Museveni was talking about
Sometimes, “okusudiya omugagga” doesn’t work. The traders are finding out the hard way.
President Yoweri K Museveni is giving them a proper tax history lecture and reminding them about patriotism. You can hear a pin drop.
Taxes everywhere on earth are not negotiated, they are “imposed and enforced.”
Those words are used deliberately.
Let’s stop negotiating, if the consumer pays the VAT, the trader’s role is to send that VAT to Uganda Revenue Authority If they don’t; then that is corruption, that is illegal.
The same traders who don’t want to pay taxes want Yoweri K Museveni to construct a Standard gauge railway and build state of the art hospitals and roads. With which money🤔
Traders are wrong on this. They should remit our VAT. Its not even them that are paying it, they just collect
. Ethiopian Embassy in Uganda , such a wonderful place. Very welcoming.
Can’t wait to be back soon.
Daniel Lutaaya Thanks Anne for the invitation.
Great perspectives here. I like what the Mayor says the Government needs to be more open with what they are giving the public.
