My job is to report accurately and not to side with anyone.
As a journalist I must speak facts even when the majority don’t want to hear them.
The facts are clear, VAT is not a new tax, EFRIS is a digital system meant to take VAT collections online. These are facts.

Any new thing will be fought.

Humans don’t like change. And we fear what we don’t understand.

Remember how people fought against digital migration of TVs?
Even EFRIS will be the same. 5 years from now, EFRIS will be the norm and we won’t even remember life before e-receipts.

If you collect money on behalf of government then you must remit it to government. If you don’t then you are corrupt and a thief.
VAT is not a new tax, it has been here for decades, EFRIS is just getting the tax from paper to digital.

You are a lawyer. Or atleast you claim to be.
Use facts and data to refute my statement rather than making ambiguous statements.

VAT EXPLAINED (For slow learners)

1. Traders don’t pay VAT.

2. It is you the consumer that pays VAT.

3. The trader just collects this VAT on behalf of Uganda Revenue Authority

4. The trader is meant to send your VAT to URA

5. The trader doesnt send it, he/she keeps it and eats it.

The problem is that people have failed to understand the concept of VAT and EFRIS. I mean, the very people defending traders don't know that they're the ones paying the tax, but traders are not remitting it. We should be behind URA, supporting them seriously!

Taxes everywhere on earth are not negotiated, they are “imposed and enforced.”
Those words are used deliberately.

Let’s stop negotiating, if the consumer pays the VAT, the trader’s role is to send that VAT to Uganda Revenue Authority If they don’t; then that is corruption, that is illegal.

The same traders who don’t want to pay taxes want Yoweri K Museveni to construct a Standard gauge railway and build state of the art hospitals and roads. With which money🤔
Traders are wrong on this. They should remit our VAT. Its not even them that are paying it, they just collect
