A wonderful article by James Wright for anyone teaching about castles at primary or secondary school or visiting castles for enjoyment - historiography, questions, challenge etc - very clearly explained.

Looking forward to Historical Assoc conference especially as I'm not preparing a session - it's taken me decades to realise conferences are gentler this way. I do hope youthful presenters on teaching medieval history don't mind a retired ex-teacher sitting quietly at the back.
All of our Early Bird tickets have now sold, but don't worry we are launching our Tier 1 tickets for #SHP24 today! Check out some of the awesome workshops that we have lined up for you showing the breadth of content and calibre of presenters that will be Leeds Trinity University June 29-30
Really enjoyed our group visit to Newcastle The Lit and Phil yesterday - my apologies to our guide for getting over-excited at seeing massed ranks of Cal Pat Rolls, Cal Close Rolls etc etc in a library that's not part of a university. My heart still belongs to The Leeds Library though
Very taken by this quotation from Prof Alexandra Walsham in Historical Assoc HA News President's Letter
'History is a form of ventriloquism: it is the skill of making them speak again, across the centuries that divide us.'
Richard Keogh Historical Assoc You may have seen we are undertaking a national survey about the teaching of Empire. The survey can be completed online we have extended the deadline to 30th April , using the following link: redcap.idhs.ucl.ac.uk/surveys/?s=L33… . twitter.com/messages/media…
For every carer battling on - I can't achieve what I want to achieve i.e. I can't reduce my wife's pain, restore her mobility or our life as it was but she sent me this today and we are so lucky to be still together after nearly 50 years. Dr Paddy Dawson
Absolutely thrilled to be able to share the final programme for the SHP Summer Conference June 29-30 Leeds Trinity University. We have a wonderful array of speakers and topics and some very special guests in our plenary slots. Early Bird tickets still available from store.leedstrinity.ac.uk/product-catalo…
I totally agree, I owe so much of my progress, and enjoyment as a History teacher to my SHP family (shoutout to d c Nick Dennis Luke Mayhew Richard Kerridge!) and having the opportunity to share at the SHP summer conference has been invaluable
Thanks so much for your inspiring contributions Claire Holliss, and we can't wait for your workshop at our summer conference in Leeds (Early Bird tickets still available here store.leedstrinity.ac.uk/product-catalo…)
